Hello, Dave

July 25th, 2005

This weekend I had the misfortune to see the entire of 2001: A Space Odyssey. This film has now entered my all time list of most boring films at number two.

I remember having seen the first 15 minutes or so before - I must have fallen asleep last time it was on. The remaining two hours only contain about 10 minutes of plot and consist mostly of:

  1. Scenes where nothing happens.
  2. Scenes where something or someone moves from somewhere to somewhere else extremely slowly.
  3. Entirely irrelevant scenes containing character development for characters who are only going to be in the film for a further five minutes.
  4. A completely blank screen with annoying noise pretending to be a sound track.
  5. A selection of 1 and 2 with annoying noise pretending to be a sound track.
  6. Solarized aerial photography of the Earth pretending to be somewhere near Jupiter.

I don’t think I’ll bother with the sequel.

In case you were wondering, my all time most boring film is The Thin Red Line. Although it has more action and plot than 2001, it is about half an hour longer so it remains number one for now.

After a few months of meaning to get round to it sometime, I’ve finally managed to set this up. I’ll start by posting some photos from Gleison’s leaving do last Friday. See if you can count how many times Dave didn’t want his photo taken.
